Do I need to charge GST on a Singapore invoice?
You must charge GST if you're GST-registered with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). Registration is compulsory once your taxable turnover exceeds S$1 million over any rolling 12-month period. Below that, registration is voluntary.
Singapore's GST rate is 9% (raised from 8% on 1 January 2024). Some supplies are zero-rated (exports, international services) and others are exempt (financial services, residential property sale or lease, investment-precious metals).
In Invoicara, choose GST as the tax type and set the rate to 9%. If you're below the registration threshold and not voluntarily registered, leave tax off, there's no legal requirement to charge it.
Singapore tax invoice requirements
When you're GST-registered, IRAS requires a tax invoice to include: the words "Tax Invoice" clearly displayed; your business name, address, and GST registration number; a sequential invoice number; the date of issue; the customer's name and address; a description of the goods or services with quantity; the unit price excluding GST; the GST amount or rate applied; the total amount excluding GST; the total GST; and the total amount payable including GST.
For supplies of less than S$1,000 (including GST), a simplified tax invoice is acceptable with fewer required fields. Invoicara's layout supports both.
UEN, business structure, and GST
Every Singapore business entity has a Unique Entity Number (UEN), issued by ACRA for companies and partnerships, or by the relevant agency for other entities. Add your UEN to the Tax ID field and it appears on the downloaded PDF beneath your business address.
Sole proprietors, partnerships, Pte Ltd companies, and LLPs all use the same UEN format on invoices. If you're GST-registered, also display your GST registration number prominently.
InvoiceNow and e-invoicing in Singapore
Singapore's InvoiceNow framework (built on PEPPOL) is the national e-invoicing standard. From 2025 onwards, more GST-registered businesses are being onboarded to issue and receive e-invoices through PEPPOL-ready service providers.
Invoicara generates PDF invoices, perfect for sending to clients by email or printing. If your business is required to use InvoiceNow for B2G or large B2B flows, you'd use an IRAS-approved Access Point provider alongside Invoicara.

Invoicing in Singapore β FAQ
Is this invoice generator free for Singapore users?
Yes, 100% free, no sign-up, no watermark, unlimited tax invoices and regular invoices.
Does it work with SGD and 9% GST?
Yes, pick SGD from the currency dropdown for the S$ symbol and Singapore number formatting, then set the tax to GST at 9%.
Can I add my UEN to the invoice?
Yes, pop your UEN into the Tax ID field and it prints on the downloaded PDF beneath your business address.
Sole proprietor vs Pte Ltd, does it make a difference here?
Not in the tool itself. Sole proprietors use their own name plus UEN; Pte Ltd companies use the company name plus UEN. Both populate the same fields.
What if I'm under the S$1 million GST threshold?
If you're under the threshold and not voluntarily registered, you don't need to charge GST. Simply skip the tax field, your invoice shows the subtotal as the total.
Tax invoice or simplified tax invoice, which should I send?
If you're GST-registered and the sale is over S$1,000 (including GST), send a full tax invoice. For smaller B2C sales a simplified tax invoice is acceptable. Invoicara's layout works for both, add "Tax Invoice" to the notes for clarity if you'd like.
